A "Welcome" from the President

Dr. W. Craig Turner, 14th President of HSU
Welcome to Hardin-Simmons University - an institution of outstanding education and Christian values.

As you walk through our attractive campus with its large trees, bridged pond, and brick buildings, and as you experience the warmth and hospitality of Texas Christians, recognize that it's only a glimpse of why so many students, faculty, and staff love it here. The philosopher A.N. Whitehead once explained the measure of a great man as "he who plants shade trees he will never sit under."

In the history of Hardin-Simmons, men and women have played vital roles in securing the future for the students of today, who are experiencing the realization of a Baptist college that was once only a dream in the hearts of a preacher, a lawyer, and a few cattlemen.

"...shade trees he will never sit under."

Through more than a century of service, HSU has influenced and shaped the lives of thousands of young people. In 1910, Lucile Sandefer, first lady of Simmons College, devoted herself to improving the triangle near Moody Center, where the graves of our founders are located. She planted the pecan trees that stand today offering shelter for her grave, which now rests among our founders, and providing shade for those who walk beneath them - a constant reminder of the strong roots that Hardin-Simmons cherishes and the flourishing future for which it strives.

We invite you to visit Hardin-Simmons University!
