You, the student, have complete control over your lender selection. As always, when borrowing – please borrow conservatively.
Choosing a Lender and the HSU Lender List
HSU has a “Performance Lender List”. The list is re-created each June, by tabulating the errors made by each lender during the preceding 12 months, and then ranking the lenders, beginning with the lender having the fewest mistakes. If a lender’s error index exceeds a specific number, the lender is removed from the HSU Performance List and required to remain off the list for the next 2 years. Then, they may be reinstated to the list through a specific, prescribed, 2-year process of rehabilitation.
When selecting a lender, please consider the following:
Although the list is provided to give you a clear idea of the performance of lenders with HSU students during the preceding 12-month period, you are not required to use any lender on this list, but instead, you may contact any lender and obtain their 6-digit Lender Code, which can be entered into the loan application process.
If you have any questions about choosing a lender or about any other part of the loan-making process, please contact the HSU Financial Aid Office.
